This year, ticket purchases are online only; there are no reply cards to purchase tickets by regular mail. If you need help, please call 734.337.3338.
After purchase, you will receive an acknowledgment/receipt for your ticket. In the days leading up to the event, you will receive an email with the link to the Saturday, October 24th gala and the recipe for the event’s signature cocktail/mocktail.
Tammy Coxen, Chief Tasting Officer at Tammy’s Tastings, will be featured during the gala. She created a unique beverage for our guests to make for themselves at home with alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions. During the event, Tammy will discuss the drink and the ingredients and share fun stories about mixology. Along with Michigan Public Radios’ Lester Graham, Tammy co-authored Cheers to Michigan: A Celebration of Cocktail Culture and Craft Distillers.

If you would like to host a House Party, you can buy tickets at the $500 level to share with up to six others – or, split the ticket cost! You might choose to host a small (SAFE) gathering in your home to enjoy the gala, cocktails/mocktails and snacks together. OR, invite far-flung friends and interact with them on other devices during the party. However you choose to attend, we hope to see lots of selfies and social media sharing. You can send photos of your “gala” to HouseParty@washtenawliteracy.org or use the hashtag #LiteracyAtHome2020 when sharing on social media.
NO! Washtenaw Literacy’s benefit gala is not delivered on a Zoom platform. In the days leading up to the event, ticket holders will receive an email with a link connecting to a streaming program. Most will be pre-recorded, but there will be a live chat feature. You can watch it on any device. And, if you can cast the stream to a large screen, it will feel like you are in a big venue! This year, you are in a big venue, duh, the world! But, keep a device in your hand while watching. You may want to join in on the chat!
Our traditional auction is the highlight of our event and is always anticipated. This year, we simply want to thank those businesses and individuals who donated to our successful auction block last year. With all of the upheavals they are experiencing, we’d like to encourage you to support them directly. Please see the list at this link.
The pandemic version of our auction carries on! This year, we are offering elements of our work, our programming, for bidding/support! Please consider bidding/giving to support literacy by investing in our work directly. That is what it’s been all about for nearly fifty years. Washtenaw Literacy’s revenue is uncertain during the current challenges, and we need your continued support. What would you have spent on a basket with all the trimmings? Please give so that the 22nd annual gala can equal or exceed the ten-year average annual gross revenue of $100,000. To add support beyond purchasing a ticket, please go to this page to review the virtual “auction” block!
So do we! We wish we could greet you in person, but the next best thing is sharing the virtual gala experience with others! Please, send selfies, or photos, of your “gala” to HouseParty@washtenawliteracy.org or use the hashtag #LiteracyAtHome2020 when sharing on social media. Please take a few moments to watch this video, Until We See Each Other Again …
